a plant without roots. But how would that work? How would it feed itself? This imaginary highly evolved plant would have to feed itself on small creatures. It would live in water and have little cells instead of roots in the form of balls to trap little creatures. The balls would have a door which are sealed so that the plant is able to pump water out of it through it cells so that negative pressure is created inside the ball. The hairs outside of the balls would alarm the plant that its prey is close. Then the door of the ball will break its seal and the door springs inwards, and the negative pressure inside the ball sucks the water just outside the door and hopefully catches the little creature. The door is shut again and bon appetit little plant. It would be the most complex structure in the entire plant kingdom. And it is. The plant is called bladderwort.
